Old PC:
Right click on the cd-rom – properties – hardware tab. Here you will find the name of the modal. Or go to Belarc.com and download their software and after running it you can tell what the modal is then begin searching at the manufactures web site for the drivers.
New PC:
Go to the manufactures website and download the firmware. It might be an issue if there is multiple firmwares for one modal. Like if you have a Dell, and buy it new, you can customize it. So later when you update cd-rom firmware it becomes a guessing game of which one to choose from since they’ve aloud customers to choose different cd-roms for their pc.
1. Use modal # of PC to get to manufacture update page for your pc.
2. Look for cd-rom updates or firmware updates
3. Determin it is the correct one by doing some of the methods mentioned above.
4. Follow the directions.
It is possible to go to sony or toshiba for ex. and try to download, but on new pc’s often it will not work and might void your warranty.
for dos all you need is oakcdrom.sys, this cover most of the cdr, dvd-r out there
for windows 98 and all other none is really needed
you will however need ASPI driver for windows xp/ 2000
goggle install apsi or forceaspi
If you are using WINDOWS XP you dont need any drivers that im aware of other then the chipset drivers perhaps for your mainboard and those should be on a cd..that came with the mainboard and or can be downloaded from the mainboard manufactures website.
