  1. Arkansas gets a bad wrap.

You would be right outside of Little Rock, and that is a very progressive city. I have been there, and did not notice anything unusual.

Don’t let the “hillbilly” stereotype fool you. Just like every other place in the world, there is racial tension in certain areas. Chicago, New York, Detroit, San Diego, Houston, Miami, etc. It’s all the same thing.

EDIT: In response to your additional remarks…

When was the last time you heard that the KKK was causing problems in AK? They are impotent. If you are seriously concerned, contact the Benton Police Dept and ask them about hate crime statistics.

Don’t move on my advice. I am just giving my perceptions.

  2. Nope. Arkansas isn’t too bad. There are pockets of weirdos in every state. But, enough retirees landed there over the last 20 years that Arkansas is rather genteel in comparison to the BIG gathering grounds of white supremist weirdos like in Montana. They’ve taken over there. My parents retired to Arkansas until my mother became ill, and I love fishing there. My father would never live anywhere there was racial nonsense. He scoped it out really well for that before moving there.

  3. Actually Benton is nowhere near Russelville and Harrison!

I lived in Benton for about 3 yrs., about 15 yrs. ago and it still had that very small-minded, redneck feel to it, but it has improved over the recent years, and is much better!

I live in LR/NLR now and have for many years.(before and after Benton) This area is very diverse.

If it is a possibility, you might consider the LR/NLR area instead.
